The club was formed in 1975 for local children by founder members Irene Turner, Tom Eccles, Jo Mottershead, Barbara Mullin and Brian Bradley.

The first shows were held behind the Knowles Arms Public House at Pleckgate and the club was based there until the end of the season in 1980. In 1981 the club moved to Blackleach Farm at Great Harwood which belonged to committee member Mrs Sheila Gibbons. In those days many of our competitors hacked to our shows, tying up ponies to any available tree, bush or fence and if you had the luxury of a trailer or more impressively a horsebox then you were a very lucky person! It was all very different from showing today and our ponies were expected to take part in every discipline from handy pony and gymkhanas to equitation and show jumping

.

In 1987 we outgrew our showground at Great Harwood and our move took us to our superb venue at Osbaldeston Riding Centre – home of the Bargh family. The facilities offered at Osbaldeston include a level and well drained field with spacious rings which is overlooked by a café serving tasty home cooked food, a lorry park with good hard standing, two indoor schools where our Dressage classes/Dressage working in takes place, civilised toilet facilities and a bar for those non horsy dads to disappear to in between classes!

Our move meant that the club grew from being a small local event to a much bigger show attracting members and competitors from the surrounding counties of Cheshire, Yorkshire and Cumbria but all with the same friendly atmosphere. We now hold over 60 classes with something to suit almost every competitor including In Hand, Ridden Showing, Equitation, Working Hunter Handy Pony, Young Riders Classes and Dressage.

Unfortunately we are no longer able to hold our shows at Osbaldeston, we have now moved to Brocklehead Farm in Darwen, please see home page for more info.

We are looking forward to the start of our new season and seeing all our existing members and maybe welcoming a few new ones as well. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact one of our committee members for more info.
